Should You Drink Alcohol If You Have PD?

The holiday season invariably means holiday parties with alcohol. For people with Parkinson’s, alcohol can affect everyone differently. Some people with Parkinson’s choose to avoid alcohol because it doesn’t mix well with their medications, and they can be more sensitive to hangovers. Some people with PD report they still drink moderately and enjoy it. I found nothing in the literature other than recommendations from naturopathic sites which indicates alcohol affects the central nervous system and should be used with caution. When we are under attack or in danger, the sympathetic nervous system kicks in. It creates 1,500 different chemical and physical reactions to help avoid physical harm.
