
We have Posture School going on right now at the Rebel Fit Club, and one of the exercises we’re working on is the “Cross-Touch.” This is one of my favorite exercises because it does so much with so little movement.
This exercise strengthens the deep core and multifidus muscles (the muscles that run up your spine like shoelaces), while also improving shoulder stability and brain function through sequencing and cross-body movement.
Many people think of their core as the surface muscle under the skin called the Rectus Abdominis, AKA “six-pack abs.” The truth is that the rectus abdominis is just a strappy muscle in the front of our body that flexes us forward.
The really important muscles of the core (there are several) lie beneath the Rectus Abdominis, with the fibers going in several different directions. These are our true stabilizers, and it’s important to keep them strong.
