Do This Nose Breathing Exercise To Improve Parkinson’s Posture

This nasal breathing exercise is a great way to regulate and correct shallow breathing caused by stooped posture, a common problem with Parkinson’s. I do it as a warm-up in Rebel Fit Club’s Posture School, a five-week series we offer both in the gym and virtually (see more info below).

If you are not breathing correctly and fully, toxins can build up in your system, leading to a host of problems. If you don’t exhale completely, your system becomes more acidic from a buildup of carbon dioxide, which tightens muscles and causes inflammation.

Practicing deep, full nose breathing benefits our health in so many ways:

  • Warms and moisturizes the air you breathe in
  • Regulates blood pressure and heart rate
  • Reduces levels of cortisol stress hormones in the blood
  • Reduces lactic acid buildup in muscle tissue
  • Neutralizes blood acidity, acting as an anti-inflammatory
  • Improves immune system functioning
  • Increases physical energy and stamina
  • Increases feelings of calm and well-being

Perform this nose breathing exercise at the start of your day, and before bedtime for more restful sleep.  It’s simple, and you can do this anywhere with minimal or no equipment.
