My fighters with Parkinson’s often comment on how stiff or tight their hands are. This is a very common symptom. It’s not just your fingers, it’s the wrists, arms, and shoulders, too. It’s so frustrating to not be able to get your phone out of your pocket or simply get dressed. If your hands are stiff and slow, every task takes longer, and it really affects your quality of life.
There are many hand-strengthening products on the market. Some are squishy balls you grip, but for most people with Parkinson’s, their hands are already in a flexed or curled position. What you really need to do is EXTEND your hands.
This Roll the Dice exercise is one of many hand exercises we use in our classes during cool-downs. It’s fun and interactive, using your voice and, if you really want a challenge, your eyes, as well!
