Do This To Decrease Your Risk of Falls From Parkinson’s

Cognitive ability has a direct relationship to falling risk in people with Parkinson’s. Research shows that people who score poorly on cognitive tests also fall more often.

We know that adding a cognitive challenge to a physical task improves both your physical condition and brain function, particularly your executive functioning ability. That’s why we train people with brain games in our classes to improve their cognition, decrease their risk for falls, and improve executive functioning.

We add brain games, multi-tasking, and dual/combination tasks to all of our boxing and boot camp classes here at the Rebel Fit Club. When I’m talking to people with Parkinson’s and they tell me, “I’m walking and lifting weights in a gym,” my answer is always, “Great! And…you need to do more!” If Parkinson’s were easy to manage and walking and weightlifting were enough, no one would be falling and progressing, right?

We know that Parkinson’s is a tough opponent, so we must give it our all and train harder than ever before. We see a huge difference in fall risk, balance, and mood with our Fighters who come regularly to class, make friends, work physically and mentally, and have fun. It really works!

We make it fun. Together We Fight Parkinson’s—it’s the best way to slow your progression and decrease your risk for falls.
