If You Have Parkinson’s Disease Do This for Sore Cramping Feet Everyday

My fighters and dancers with Parkinson’s asked me to create a myofascial release video specifically for feet. Your feet take a beating and are often neglected. With Parkinson’s cramping, neuropathy and a host of other painful ailments are often present.

I get asked a lot about what I recommend. I know with my own feet I have abused them over the years from dancing and wearing high heels. They need a lot of love!

It’s important not to wait for a foot massage. I give myself a foot massage almost every day. It makes a big difference in my back and I feel like my steps are “spring-ier.” Watch this video to see the technique:

INSTRUCTIONS:

All you need for this basic foot massage is a racquetball and your own fingers.

  1. Start by rolling the ball under your foot. Really press into the ball. You can do this standing and hanging onto a chair, or seated.
  1. Make sure you get the arch, the ball of the foot, and back towards the heel.
  2. Then do a pumping action into the ball with bottom of your foot to release the plantar fascia and get blood flow to your foot.
  3. Next set the ball aside and take both ends of your foot and “wring” it in opposite directions by gently twisting it.
  1. Next, pull back your toes to stretch the bottom of your foot. Then bend your toes under.
  1. Roll each toe side to side individually.
  1. Cup the heel and massage it on the side.
  1. Move up towards the Achilles tendon and massage it up and down.
  1. Do the same with the calves, getting into the tissue. Hold onto the calf muscles while pointing and flexing your foot. You will feel the tissue relax and contract.
  2. Repeat with your other foot.

Do this every morning to get ready for your day. You can also repeat part of this exercise at the end of the day to undo the pressure put on your feet.

Enjoy stepping with less pain and feeling a bit lighter in your step!
